Emma Jane Roberts

I was born in Shropshire and have spent most of my life here following a career in the visual arts including involvement with Telford Community Arts during the 1980’s. I studied Art and Design at S.C.A.T in the early 1990’s and have taken part in group exhibitions in Shropshire (Bearsteps, Church Stretton, Ludlow Art Society, Broseley Group, The Edge, MuchWenlock, D.A.S.H); Wales (International Women’s Day), London (Womens Art Library) ,Poland (International Open) and my work is in private collections.  In 1997 I gained a B.A in art at Coventry University and my dissertation concerned female footballers. Since then I have chosen to develop work about my immediate environment as well as fantasy characters, sometimes in collaboration with other artists. This year I have entered writing competitions for the first time and am exhibiting in Bridgnorth Arts and Music Festival and other local venues, whilst continuing a blog. I am planning to bring out a retrospective book of cartoons and exhibition during 2011, venue to be confirmed. I have had phases when I have worked in paint, film and photography. Currently I am writing about my early life on a farm in the 1960’s and drawing cartoons about everyday events. I occasionally do freelance  work, when the opportunity arises, using my drawing, photography and filmmaking skills.
