Ironbridge Fine Arts An Exhibition of new work from Rod Willis & Jenny Gunning
Rod Willis & Jenny Gunning will both be exhibiting new collections of work at Ironbridge Fine Arts from 4th June until 31st August.
The Hills and Skyscapes of Shropshire and Worcestershire is a concise collection of ten giclees which celebrate and capture the landscape which Rod considers home. The paintings have taken over 12 months to produce and have involved many early morning and late afternoon visits to collect sketches and photographs. Starting with the Clent Hills, and moving westwards across to the Stiperstones while taking in Malvern, The Clees, the Wrekin & the Long Mynd, the collection captures the stunning landscape of these two counties. His website will be relaunched to coincide with the exhibition at www.rod.willis.co.uk.
From first light on the Grand Canal through to evening in St Marks’ square, Rod captures the mood and atmosphere of the magical city of Venice in a brand new collection of giclees.
Jenny is releasing a set of artist proof etchings inspired by prominent landscapes she has visited from her travels around the world. Alongside these she has completed a set of more intimate portraits of people that have touched her life in some way.
The gallery is open Tuesday until Saturday from 10 til 5 and Sunday from 12 til 4.

MORE JOBS & OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARTISTS
TOUCHWOOD is urging local artists and community groups to take part in its Your Space scheme.
The initiative, launched last year, allows organisations or individuals to showcase their cause, service or talent, in front of thousands of shoppers. Interested parties can sign up to occupy a space, free of charge, for periods of a week to a month, from Monday. The only condition is that the area is used to promote or display something engaging and of interest to the local community.
Lucy Burnett, marketing manager at Touchwood, said: “We launched Your Space as a year-long initiative, but the scheme has proved so popular that we have decided to extend it into 2011.
“Your Space offers a great opportunity to help raise awareness of some of the deserving and interesting organisations in the area.
“During 2010 a whole host of different groups took advantage of the space, from the RSPCA and Marie Curie, to the British Sugarcraft Guild, Solihull Youth Workshop and Ackers Adventure.
“Space is limited so we encourage anyone interested to apply now and let us know how they would like to use the area.”

ARTIST BRIEF
The Project Group:
The Project Group (Oswestry) CIC is an arts based community business (not for profit) working largely on art commissions for the public and private sectors. The group’s activities include community and public workshops, a retail range and the development of workshops and commissions for corporate clients.
We provide a creative environment for individuals, in touch with mental health services, to achieve at their own pace. Most of our members are currently unemployed and use their time with The Project Group to become confident within a work like environment, gain new skills and motivation to become “work ready”.
Innovation and quality are at the heart of our success. The ethos of the group encourages artistic experimentation and risk taking – whilst providing a framework for less confident members to move forward at their own pace. We work with professional artists, at all times, within a professional studio environment.
The Project Group has 35 members and we foster a culture of achievement. Through this culture members gain in confidence and self-esteem, showing motivation and commitment, achieving well above expectations. Members come from all over Shropshire.
Facilities:
At the Project Group we have:
- 2 glass kilns
- Ceramic kiln
- Screen printing facilities
- Dry point printing press
- studio flat for artists in residence
-
Opportunity:
We are currently looking to build up a database of artists who could lead workshops for our members in order to widen our portfolio and learn transferable skills which could be used for both art commissions and retail products. We are looking to both learn completely new as well as to build on our existing skills.
Aims:
• To improve ideas generation and processes of design and production
• To explore and experiment with materials and their properties to discover potential for their use in developing new products or responding to commissions.
• To improve technical skills and quality of making
• To explore methods and means of production to make best use of equipment, facilities and collective skills
• To leave behind a range of samples/resources and materials for reference and use (where appropriate)
• To raise creative ambition and increase awareness of the marketplace
• To transfer knowledge and experience of professionalism in crafts practice as a career
How to respond:
Please send us information about yourself, your experience in running workshop, pictures of your work and a proposal of how you would structure a workshop with the project group.
We haven’t got a specific project in mind at the moment – please be creative with your proposal. Opportunities depend on project funding. We also invite artists in to actively manage holiday cover, as we are a small organisation with only part time staff.
Please send your proposal to:

Steamroller Prints at The Sidney Nolan Trust
In August 2011 The Sidney Nolan Trust is offering printmakers a rare opportunity to make really big prints - up to 8foot x 4foot (2.4 x 1.2m). As it says in the title, we'll print these using a steamroller. The time commitment will be one weekend in July (2-3 July) plus up to five days in August (17-21 August). The venue is The Trust headquarters near Presteigne, a fabulous rural location on a 250acre organic farm and mediaeval manor. Participants in a similar venture in 2009 had a ball!
Artist brief and application at http://www.sidneynolantrust.org.uk/SRP2011_ArtistsBrief.htm
We will use a 3-ton construction roller. Delightful ‘though it would be to use a traditional steamroller, technical considerations rule this out (to cope with the camber of highways, steamrollers had split front rollers, which would leave a line down the middle of prints. Modern construction rollers arrive on a trailer and thus can have continuous wide rollers.)
This will be a public occasion with other attractions, including sculpture display. Members of the public will be invited to join in the fun of large-scale prints as spectators and by making their own "foot-square" relief plates at workshop sessions held over the weekend. These plates will then be printed using the steamroller.
We have borrowed the name "Steamroller Prints" from an annual event sponsored by the San Francisco Centre for the Book, with their consent.

Survive & Thrive – free guide on using technology
Dramatic funding cuts make it urgent for charities and community groups to embrace technology. Good use of technology offers your organisation new routes into funding and lets you reach more people – donors, policy makers or beneficiaries – more effectively, cheaply and 24/7. So, ultimately, you can improve more lives.
Eight of the UK’s top funders met last month to discuss the role of technology in the modernisation of charities and to improve their efficiency.
As a result the Survive & Thrive guide was produced full of useful case studies and tips on how you too can use technology to cut costs, raise more money, build communities, increase your reach and more vividly demonstrate your impact.
