Opportunities

Craven Arms is becoming "the town on the River Onny”

This year Craven Arms' annual celebration of creativity and art is set to make a big splash.

Sometimes referred to as "that town on the A49", this September Craven Arms is becoming "the town on the River Onny" - with watery art, art about water, art on water, art inspired by water, and art made from water. And an Artwalk route that follows the river.

This is a once a year chance for people from all over Shropshire to show the world what a creative place we live in. So get involved. If you're a performer, or musician, or have an idea that could take place en-route please respond to this email at worldsbiggestgallery@gmail.com or call Catherine on 01588
680 484
And there are many other ways you can join in:

Make a Scrapture for the £750 Sculpture competition

An open competition for "scraptures" made from recycled materials is being held on September 11th. There is a £750 cash prize for the winner. For how to enter see "£750 prize sculpture" attachment.

Show your paintings or artwork

Last year over 2000 art fans came to see the paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures displayed throughout the town. This year the theme for work is "Water" - so all things inspired by or relating to water are welcome, including (of course) water colours.

You can sell work and we will not charge a commission. Or you might just want to show people something you've made that is just sitting unloved in your loft. See "The World's Biggest Gallery" attachment for how to show a piece in the ArtWalk.

Take a stall at the Art Super Market

On the 11th September there will also be an art fair/market as part of the day's celebrations. Artists, galleries, makers, arts organisations and anyone interested in the arts is invited to take a stall. This is an opportunity to make something happen, sell some work and involve different audiences in what you do. See "Art Super Market" attachment on how to book your stall.

Experienced arts provider needed

NHS Dudley are working with the team at praXis to contract an experienced arts provider to support young people to use multi media to document activities they are undertaking as part of the Kick Ash programme. Kick Ash aims to encourage young people (aged 11-19 or 11-25 if they have a disability) to be free from tobacco smoke and participate in activities in 'smoke-free' environments.

World Heritage Festival, Ironbridge, Saturday 25 September

Opportunities for Visual Artists

1.    We are looking for individual artists or team of artists to contribute to providing creative activities at the World Heritage Festival

This annual Festival takes place along the Wharfage in Ironbridge with street entertainment, stalls and evening fireworks etc.

The Arts & Culture team at Telford & Wrekin Council have a designated area, which includes a large Marque, situated in the Museum of the River Car Park.  We would like to offer a variety of workshops linked to the World heritage theme that people of all ages can join in with.

In the week leading up to the Festival we also want two workshops to be delivered to the local community to promote the arts presence at the festival with the aim of creating simply banners so that the arts area looks interesting on the Saturday.

You need to be experienced in running themed community workshops and possess public Liability cover and a current CRB for Telford and Wrekin

2.    There are also a limited number of opportunities in the form of stalls available for projects which seek to involve communities in exploring their creativity who would be interested in demonstrating their skills or raising their profile during the day. This is not the same as the hired market stalls along the road at which artists will be selling work.

How to apply;

1.    Please send an outline of what you could offer to the festival in the way of creative activities and how you see it linking to the theme, giving examples of similar activities that you have undertaken.

Something More Gets Creative

Background to project

Telford & Wrekin NHS, Community Health Service and Telford & Wrekin Council’s Arts & Culture Team are working in partnership to enhance / to add value to an existing project by including a creative dimension.  We have the opportunity to add some additional creative sessions to the current Something More programme this year.  Funding is available to pilot some ideas to increase the use of creativity to further enhance self esteem and perhaps develop a common goal of a piece of shared artwork/creative work amongst different groups going through the programme.

Something More

Something More is a programme exclusively for women, funded through Telford & Wrekin PCT.  It is aimed at promoting positive mental health in women who have been identified as at increased risk of developing a mental health problem.

Objectives:

•    To develop emotional resilience in vulnerable women in Telford
•    To offer additional psychological support and activities to aid the process

The women who attend the sessions, have identified for themselves that they are ready to move on in their own personal circumstances.  So the course aims to challenge the perceptions they have about themselves and provide the tools and support for them to make positive changes required in order to increase their self esteem and self confidence.

Something More Gets Creative

Proposal

•    We are planning to offer all the women who complete the September -December and the January - March Something More courses (and possibly the next cohort of groups from April on too) a chance to join together for a continuation short project (4 + sessions) facilitated by a local artist.  The aim would be to further develop confidence and self-expression through creativity. The women would choose the arts media they wanted to work in and either produce an individual piece or a joint artistic piece (could be creative writing, music, drawing or painting, craft piece etc).

•    Part of the proposal would be to run a short course for Something  More facilitators who would like to develop their own skills in facilitating creativity within the programme.  This would involve a local artist providing some skills training and practical support to help women express themselves creatively. The facilitators would then be able to introduce the idea of the creative sessions to the women.

The long term aim would be to build in some sustainability as funding is unlikely to be available in future.

•    A further sustainable idea would be to set up a web page dedicated to Something More creativity, showcasing participants’ work.

What we are looking for.
•    An arts company or individual artists with a variety of skills enabling us to offer a range of experiences to the participants.  In this instance owing to the vulnerability of the participants we are seeking women artists only.

•    Artists with experience of working in the arts in mental health sector and with an understanding of emotional health and well being.

•    Experience of leading creative workshops with vulnerable people

•    Experience of project monitoring and evaluation according to health sector needs.

HOW TO APPLY:

Your response should outline briefly:
•    previous experience,
•    what you would bring to the project
•    why you are interested in this opportunity.

If applying please respond with information that specifically relates to “what we are looking for” and what you could bring to the project, in relation to this brief as this is what we shall shortlist from.

MOOR ART 1 and MOOR ART 2

These are two on-going art groups that I run. Moor Art 1 tend to come on alternative Wednesdays and Moor Art 2 come on weekends and holidays. Students are set projects which explore their own style of working through learning new techniques and studying the work of master artists. We often eat cake and biscuits, discuss books and listen to good music, as well as getting down to some  serious enjoyable work. Both groups welcome new members and we do have two new students joining us this term. Maybe you might like to join them as well. These groups enjoy even greater discounts as they come so often.

MOOR THREADS

If you are looking for a stimulating textile group to join, this could be the group for you. Moor Threads are mainly textile based, although this is not essential and have set themselves up as an exhibiting group. They work under my mentorship and I help them explore their own individual working methods by setting thought provoking challenges. The group has some exciting exhibitions opportunities to work towards and is currently looking for more members to play an active role in the group. They meet monthly on a Friday.

GIFT VOUCHERS

These have been proving to be very useful as a different kind of gift for a family member or friend to spend on an inspirational course.   Details on my website.

Please pass on my newsletter to anyone that you feel may be interested. I already have received many new contacts, so thanks to those of you that have passed my details on to friends.

BOOKING FORMS ... When you have found a course that you would like to come to, booking forms can be downloaded from my website. Any problems, just phone or email me.
